The brief
The owners were moving off gas and planning to buy an EV, and wanted the electrical work done once rather than as three separate jobs. Their 1970s home still had its original switchboard and a single-phase supply.
What we did
We started at the switchboard: a new board with room for the solar, battery and charger circuits, plus surge protection. Doing this first gave every later piece a safe, tidy home.
Twenty panels (8.8 kW) went on the north and west roofs, feeding a hybrid inverter and a 10 kWh battery. The 7 kW charger sits in the carport and uses spare solar first. Because the home is single-phase, we set up load management so the charger, oven and heat pump never overload the supply together.
The same crew installed everything over two days, and we handled the grid application and safety certificates for the whole system.
The result
The house now runs on solar through the day, the battery covers most of the evening, and the car charges from the roof on sunny weekends. Adding more electric appliances later will not need another switchboard upgrade.
